The 500,000 kW photovoltaic power station supporting Datang Zhongwei Cloud Base was successfully connected to the grid. It is China’s first large-scale demonstration project integrating computing infrastructure and power supply, equipped with supporting energy storage facilities of 200,000 kW / 800,000 kWh to supply round-the-clock green electricity for local big data centers.
The project pioneers an innovative model combining physical direct power supply from photovoltaic power stations and medium-to-long-term bilateral power transactions, eliminating multi-layer power transmission and transit losses and cutting green power supply costs by 18%. With an annual power generation capacity of roughly 800 million kWh, the station can satisfy the annual power demand of more than 200,000 servers and reduce carbon emissions by 650,000 tons every year. The National Energy Administration stated that this model will be replicated and promoted in computing clusters in Guizhou, Gansu and Inner Mongolia to advance the integrated coordinated development of data centers, new energy and energy storage.
